We would like to extend an open invitation to all SASM members to make contributions to our blog. Let's embark on a crowd-sourcing exercise for new content, if you like!  All that is required for blog articles is a one pager (1 X A4) with sound scientific writing and some eye-catching photographs or graphics. The content could be “almost anything” microbiology-related, for example:

  • an overview of your research group’s research activities or a specific topic of interest,
  • new research developments or a discussion piece on research advances in your specific field,
  • a research trip to a fascinating/remote destination of microbiological interest,
  • a recent doctorate study in your department
  • the status of microbiology research/teaching innovation in SA,
  • SASM regional branch activities, etc.
  • Here are some examples of articles published on SASM’s blog

Blog As always, time is on no one’s side, but someone you know, perhaps a colleague, a postdoc or PhD student in your research group, might be keen on science writing and able and willing to contribute. Kindly distribute this post to colleagues, researchers and fellow students at your own discretion.

Given that this type of science writing does not receive any measurable recognition in terms of accredited publication outputs,  I have to appeal to your sense of giving back to the broader SA microbiology community.  By sharing knowledge and expertise, we can raise awareness, inspire a new generation of microbiologists and forge stronger collaborative engagements between SASM members.

I am looking forward to your submissions for SASM’s Blog. Submissions can be emailed to me directly (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). All submissions will be moderated for content and formatting and authorship of the published blog entries will be retained.

Kind regards
Heinrich Volschenk
