The School of Life Sciences is well established with a strong research profile and has a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The School offers a vibrant educational and research environment in Life Sciences, with strong national and international collaborative research linkages. A full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available in the field of environmental microbiology and public health. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be expected to detect, quantify, and characterize bacterial and viral pathogens circulating in urban sewage and sewage-polluted river waters. Furthermore, the incumbent will be involved in the development and optimization of effective biological systems for wastewater treatment. The incumbent will also be required to be involved in general laboratory operations, training and mentoring of postgraduate students. A strong background in microbial profiling, wastewater analysis and molecular biology techniques is essential.


Minimum Requirements:
• PhD degree in Microbiology or relevant field obtained within the last 5 years.
• A proven research track record in the research area, as evidenced by at least five recent publications in peer-reviewed ISI/DHET rated journal.
• Relevant knowledge and practical experience in the field of Environmental Microbiology and Public Health.
• Relevant experience in postgraduate mentorship.
• Applicants must be under the age of 45 years at the time of application.
